What I'm Wearing: Ahoy There! (It's Been Awhile)

As you've probably noticed (or maybe not), I haven't done a "What I'm Wearing" post since the weekend of Valentine's Day. I feel like I owe you guys a little bit of an explanation. As I mentioned in that post, I hadn't been feeling well, and after that weekend things just continued to get worse instead of better. Basically various joints (seemingly at random) started swelling and becoming very painful...first it was my fingers, then my knees, then my feet, wrists, elbows, etc. It kept moving around and at times the swelling was so bad I couldn't get my wedding rings on past my fingernail. Needless to say I was frustrated, upset, and making many trips to the dr. to find out what was wrong with me (and I had so many blood draws I think the American Red Cross was getting jealous). After about two months of feeling awful (hence the no outfit posting, most of the time I was in the comfiest thing I could manage to pull out of the closet) I finally got my answer from the doctors...I have lupus. I'm still in the process of adjusting to that fact, but the meds are starting to help and I'm beginning to feel a little more like myself so that's a plus.

So, since today is one of the best days I've had in awhile - I thought I'd celebrate with a post (plus I figured you guys needed your Einstein fix)! This outfit was inspired by a layout in the most recent issue of Vogue, as well as this adorable outfit Kate Moss wore recently. (Photo credit)

This reminds me of the AnnTaylor Loft red jacket (military style) that I've had for a long time. I've been wanting to wear it again. :) Oh, I bought that J Crew Striped Tissue Tee, too, and boy, that shirt can be paired with almost anything! Now I have another thing to wear this week. Yay!

Thanks for all the inspiration, and I hope and wish you the best for your health. :)

You look great! I am glad you are feeling better now. Why did it take so long to diagnose? Did you have a positive ANA? (Sorry if I'm being too personal-I know a lot about this stuff unfortunately!)

Digitalsmacker - Glad I gave you some outfit inspiration, and thanks for the comment.

Liane - Thank you, I appreciate it (and yes, Einstein has been great in helping me thru!).

Wendy - Thank you very much. I started going to the dr. shortly after Valentine's Day and originally they thought it was a virus (Fifth's Disease) and put me on prednisone. The prednisone helped the swelling but as soon as I tapered down, it flared back up. I went back (about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks later) and they decided to test for everything they could think of that would cause inflammation. My tests from that came back as neg for Lyme, neg for the rheumatoid factor, and positive ANA. My dr. then referred me to a rheumatologist where they did even MORE testing and determined that in addition to the positive ANA, I also have positive double stranded DNA, low white blood cell count, mild anemia, and hypocomplementemia which in addition to my symptoms led them to the lupus diagnosis. So all in all I actually found out the diagnosis at the very end of March/beginning of April (right before Easter)...so it was just under 2 months after getting sick that I received a diagnosis.

Sorry for the long winded answer. I'm not 100% sure why it took so long, a lot of it was waiting around for blood test results (and when they came back it almost always led to more tests instead of answers) at least on my end.

Hope you are feeling better. Your outfits always look great! How come you never wear heels though. Just noticed that all your outfits are with flats. Still cute though!

J @ The Look 4 Less said...

Budget Babe - Thanks. :)

Amy - I have been feeling better, thank you. I'm 5'10" so that's part of the reason I mainly wear flats, as well as the fact that heels just aren't practical for my lifestyle 95% of the time. I do wear heels if I'm going out, or going to a wedding or some other formal occasion but I definitely NEVER wear heels to go shopping, to work, etc. I only like to post what I'm actually wearing, so it would be silly to put heels on just for a photo (in my opinion). Hope that answers your question!

Jen I'm sorry to hear about your lupus diagnosis. As Kim said, it's good they figured out what it is. Sometimes they are not so diligent and will keep prescribing Rx for the symptoms instead of getting to the root of the problem.

That was a good question about flats. I thought you were 5'4 - 5'6". Now it makes sense why the DKNY trench fits so great in the arm length.

Thanks Gigi, I appreciate it. I am thankful they didn't just keep prescribing me something to deal with the symptoms and actually came up with a diagnosis. It was very frustrating there for awhile!

Yep, I'm a tall one (although I'm the shortest in my family!). :)
